قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَخْلَفْنَا مَوْعِدَكَ بِمَلْكِنَا وَلَٰكِنَّا حُمِّلْنَآ أَوْزَارًۭا مِّن زِينَةِ ٱلْقَوْمِ فَقَذَفْنَٰهَا فَكَذَٰلِكَ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ
How to read it
Qālū mā 'akh'laf'nā maw'ʻidaka bimal'kinā walākinnā ḥummilnā 'aw'zāran mmin zīnati l-qaw'mi faqadhaf'nāhā fakadhālika 'al'qā ssāmiriyyu
They said: "We broke not the promise to thee, as far as lay in our power: but we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the (whole) people, and we threw them (into the fire), and that was what the Samiri suggested.
