أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱشْتَرَوُا۟ ٱلضَّلَٰلَةَ بِٱلْهُدَىٰ وَٱلْعَذَابَ بِٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ فَمَآ أَصْبَرَهُمْ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ
'Ūlā'ika -lladhīna (i)sh'tarawu ḍḍalālata bil-hudā wal-ʻadhāba bil-magh'firati . famā 'aṣ'barahum' ʻalā nnāri
They are the ones who buy Error in place of Guidance and Torment in place of Forgiveness. Ah! what boldness (They show) for the Fire!

They traded guidance for going astray and forgiveness for punishment; how bold they are towards the Fire!
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Would you swap forgiveness for punishment?"
Madrasah Alfatiha posted a short recitation of ayat 171–175 of Al-Baqarah. Listen to all of it together.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What did they trade away?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why is this a terrible trade?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Baqarah is surah 2. Find ayah 175. They chose to hide truth for money, trading away guidance and forgiveness. This ayah mentions, in one calm line, the result. We choose guidance.
Fact: The Qur'an often uses trading words to describe choices.
Ages 5–8: Good trade. Talk about choosing forgiveness.
Ages 9–12: Bad trade. Write why it's a terrible swap.
Finish with: "Choose guidance over ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will ask Allah for forgiveness every night."
Action: Ask Allah for forgiveness every night.
