تِلْكَ أُمَّةٌۭ قَدْ خَلَتْ ۖ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَلَكُم مَّا كَسَبْتُمْ ۖ وَلَا تُسْـَٔلُونَ عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
Til'ka 'ummatun qad' khalat' . lahā mā kassabat' walakum mmā kassab'tum' . walā tus''alūna ʻammā kānū yaʻ'malūna
That was a people that hath passed away. They shall reap the fruit of what they did, and ye of what ye do! Of their merits there is no question in your case!

That nation is gone; they keep what they earned and you keep what you earn, and you will not be questioned about their deeds.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Can we rely on our ancestors' good deeds?"
Hidaya learning quran posted a short recitation of ayat 131–135 of Al-Baqarah. Listen to all of it together.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What will we not be asked about?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why can't we rely on ancestors?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Baqarah is surah 2. Find ayah 134. Being from a good family doesn't save us. Each person answers for their own deeds. We make our own record.
Fact: This ayah is repeated almost exactly in 2:141.
Ages 5–8: Own page. Draw your own page of deeds, separate from anyone else's.
Ages 9–12: Own record. Write why we can't rely on family name.
Finish with: "We have what we ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will do good deeds of my own each day."
Action: Do good deeds of your own each day.
