Ask: "How did people know what month it was before calendars on phones?"

Madinah College posted a short recitation of ayat 1–10 of Yunus. Listen to all of it together.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "Why did Allah give the moon stages?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why does the moon change shape each night?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Yunus is surah 10. Find ayah 5. The sun gives its own blazing light; the moon reflects a gentler light. The moon's changing shape helps us count months, which is why the Islamic calendar follows the moon, and why we look for the new moon before Ramadan.

Fact: How many days it takes the moon to go from new moon to new moon. A sign to ponder.

Ages 5–8: Moon diary. Draw the moon's shape every night for a week.

Ages 9–12: Moon months. List the twelve Islamic months in order.

Finish with: "The moon goes through its phases in about ___ days."
