Start with bismillah.

Ask: "What makes a book wise, not just clever?"

Play the short clip from Hoor Academy of Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husary reciting ayat 1–6 of Yunus.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "Which three letters open the surah?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why do some surahs begin with single letters?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Yunus is surah 10. Find ayah 1. Surah Yunus is named after Prophet Yunus, the prophet who was swallowed by a whale. It begins with three letters, Alif Lam Ra, whose full meaning Allah knows, and then praises the Qur'an as a wise Book.

Fact: How many surahs begin with Alif Lam Ra. Look at the start of surahs 10 to 15.

Ages 5–8: Letter look. Find the letters Alif, Lam and Ra at the top of the surah in the mushaf.

Ages 9–12: Wisdom list. Write three wise lessons you have already learned from the Qur'an.

Finish with: "Surah Yunus is named after the prophet who was swallowed by a ___."

Talk together:

• Who is the surah named after?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• What makes the Qur'an wise?
• Which wise lesson helps you most?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will learn one wise lesson from Surah Yunus."
