Ask: "Can an enemy become a brother?"

Ummah Muslim posted a short recitation of ayah 11 of At-Tawbah. Listen to all of it together.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What three things make them brothers?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How can tawbah wipe away the past?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah At-Tawbah is surah 9. Find ayah 11. No matter what someone did before, if they turn to Allah, pray and give zakah, they become full brothers and sisters in faith. Many who once fought Islam became great Muslims.

Ages 5–8: Brother and sister. Do something kind for a brother, sister or friend.

Ages 9–12: Fresh start. Write how tawbah gives a fresh start.

Finish with: "Khalid ibn al-Walid was called the Sword of ___."

Talk together:

• What makes people brothers in faith?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• Can tawbah change everything?
• How can you welcome new Muslims?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will be kind to someone new."

• Tawbah gives a fresh start.
• Be a good brother or sister.
• Welcome others.
• Next time: the next ayah (9:12) speaks of those who broke their oaths. Explore it together!
