Then, when the Deafening Blast comes…
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "What's the loudest sound you've ever heard?"
Watch the NHS 24 video "How loud is too loud?".
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What will come on that Day?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "What will the Blast sound like?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah 'Abasa is surah 80. Find ayah 33. The key word as-sakhkhah means the Deafening Blast, a sound so great it will start the events of the Day of Judgement.
Fact: What is a decibel, and how loud is thunder?
Ages 5–8: Sound scale. List sounds from quietest to loudest: a whisper, talking, a dog barking, thunder.
Ages 9–12: Protect your ears. Find out how loud sounds damage hearing and how to protect it.
Finish with: "I found that thunder can be about ___ decibels."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will keep my headphones at a safe volume."
Action: Keep your headphones at a safe volume.
