لَّوْلَا كِتَٰبٌۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ سَبَقَ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِيمَآ أَخَذْتُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌۭ
Llaw'lā kitābun mmina -llahi sabaqa lamassakum' fīmā 'akhadh'tum' ʻadhābun ʻaẓīmun
Had it not been for a previous ordainment from Allah, a severe penalty would have reached you for the (ransom) that ye took.

If it were not for something Allah had already written, a great punishment would have reached them for what they took.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Have you ever been saved from a mistake?"
Begin Yasser Al-Dosari's Al-Anfal on Quranic Uploads and listen for a few minutes.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What saved them?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How does Allah's mercy come before His punishment?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Anfal is surah 8. Find ayah 68. Allah had already decided to forgive the people of Badr, so they were spared. It shows Allah's mercy comes first, even when people make mistakes.
Fact: Find Al-An'am 6:54: your Lord has written mercy upon Himself.
Ages 5–8: Saved. Talk about a time you were saved from a mistake.
Ages 9–12: Mercy first. Write how Allah's mercy comes before punishment.
Finish with: "Allah has written ___ upon Himself."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will forgive someone's mistake."
Action: Forgive someone's mistake.
