إِذْ أَنتُم بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَهُم بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ ٱلْقُصْوَىٰ وَٱلرَّكْبُ أَسْفَلَ مِنكُمْ ۚ وَلَوْ تَوَاعَدتُّمْ لَٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِى ٱلْمِيعَٰدِ ۙ وَلَٰكِن لِّيَقْضِىَ ٱللَّهُ أَمْرًۭا كَانَ مَفْعُولًۭا لِّيَهْلِكَ مَنْ هَلَكَ عَنۢ بَيِّنَةٍۢ وَيَحْيَىٰ مَنْ حَىَّ عَنۢ بَيِّنَةٍۢ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَسَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
How to read it
'Idh' 'antum bil-ʻud'wati ddun'yā wahum bil-ʻud'wati l-quṣ'wā wa rrak'bu 'as'fala minkum' . walaw' tawāʻadttum' la-kh'talaf'tum' fī l-mīʻādi walākin lliyaq'ḍiya -llahu 'am'ran kāna maf'ʻūlan lliyah'lika man' halaka ʻan[m] bayyinatin wayaḥ'yā man' ḥayya ʻan[m] bayyinatin . wa'inna -llaha lassamīʻun ʻalīmun
Remember ye were on the hither side of the valley, and they on the farther side, and the caravan on lower ground than ye. Even if ye had made a mutual appointment to meet, ye would certainly have failed in the appointment: But (thus ye met), that Allah might accomplish a matter already enacted; that those who died might die after a clear Sign (had been given), and those who lived might live after a Clear Sign (had been given). And verily Allah is He Who heareth and knoweth (all things).
