وَقَطَّعْنَٰهُمُ ٱثْنَتَىْ عَشْرَةَ أَسْبَاطًا أُمَمًۭا ۚ وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ إِذِ ٱسْتَسْقَىٰهُ قَوْمُهُۥٓ أَنِ ٱضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلْحَجَرَ ۖ فَٱنۢبَجَسَتْ مِنْهُ ٱثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ عَيْنًۭا ۖ قَدْ عَلِمَ كُلُّ أُنَاسٍۢ مَّشْرَبَهُمْ ۚ وَظَلَّلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْغَمَٰمَ وَأَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْمَنَّ وَٱلسَّلْوَىٰ ۖ كُلُوا۟ مِن طَيِّبَٰتِ مَا رَزَقْنَٰكُمْ ۚ وَمَا ظَلَمُونَا وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ
How to read it
Wa qaṭṭaʻ'nāhumu (i)th'natay' ʻash'rata 'as'bāṭan 'umaman . wa'aw'ḥay'nā 'ilā mūssā 'idhi (i)s'tas'qāhu qaw'muhu 'ani (i)ḍ'rib bbiʻaṣāka l-ḥajara . fa-n[m]bajassat' min'hu (i)th'natā ʻash'rata ʻay'nan . qad' ʻalima kullu 'unāssin mmash'rabahum' . waẓallalnā ʻalay'himu l-ghamāma wa'anzalnā ʻalay'himu l-manna wa ssal'wā . kulū min ṭayyibāti mā razaq'nākum' . wamā ẓalamūnā walākin kānū 'anfussahum' yaẓ'limūna
We divided them into twelve tribes or nations. We directed Moses by inspiration, when his (thirsty) people asked him for water: "Strike the rock with thy staff": out of it there gushed forth twelve springs: Each group knew its own place for water. We gave them the shade of clouds, and sent down to them manna and quails, (saying): "Eat of the good things We have provided for you": (but they rebelled); to Us they did no harm, but they harmed their own souls.
