Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What have these people lost?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why should a believer never lose hope?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Mumtahanah is surah 60. Find ayah 13, the last ayah. The key word ya'isu means they have despaired. Some people lost all hope in the Hereafter. Believers are people of hope: after every storm, the sun rises; after winter, green shoots appear.

Fact: How do seeds know when spring has come?

Ages 5–8: Hope jar. Write or draw things you hope for and put them in a jar.

Ages 9–12: Hope after hardship. Write about a hard time that later got better.

Finish with: "I found that seeds know spring has come because ___."

Talk together:

• Why is hope so important for believers?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• Who helps you stay hopeful?
• What has Surah Al-Mumtahanah taught you?
• What would you like to ask about this ayah?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will cheer up someone who feels hopeless."

• Cheer up someone who feels low.
• Recite Surah Al-Mumtahanah (or part of it) with someone at home.
• Share your hope jar.
• Next time: the next surah, As-Saff (61), begins by saying everything in the heavens and earth glorifies Allah. Explore it together!

Action: Cheer up someone who feels hopeless.
