Start with bismillah.

Ask: "Why would someone ask for advice they already have?"

Put on a reciter's Al-Ma'idah from My Quran Journey and follow along for a little while.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What did they already have?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why would people turn away from their own book?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Ma'idah is surah 5. Find ayah 43. Some wanted an easier answer than the one already in the Tawrah. The lesson is to follow guidance even when it isn't easy.

Fact: Find Al-Ma'idah 5:44, the next ayah, which calls the Tawrah guidance and light.

Ages 5–8: Follow the rule. Talk about following a rule even when it's hard.

Ages 9–12: Not picking and choosing. Write why we follow guidance fully.

Finish with: "The Tawrah had Allah's ___."

Talk together:

• What did they have?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• Why turn away?
• Which hard rule will you follow?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will follow a rule even when it's hard."

• Follow guidance.
• Don't pick and choose.
• Be sincere.
• Next time: the next ayah (5:44) describes the Tawrah as guidance and light. Explore it together!
