Start with bismillah.

Ask: "What does it look like when someone is too proud to listen?"

Watch the Muslim Central clip Pride and Arrogance with Mufti Menk. It is a short talk, so a grown-up may like to watch first.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "How does the proud man act after hearing?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why does pride make us ignore good advice?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Jathiyah is surah 45. Find ayah 8. The key words yusirru mustakbiran mean he insists, full of pride. This person heard the Quran clearly but carried on as if nothing had been said. Pride puts a wall around the heart. Humble people listen and change.

Ages 5–8: Listen and nod. Practise showing someone you are really listening.

Ages 9–12: Pride check. Write about a time you ignored good advice, and what happened.

Finish with: "I found that humility in Arabic is ___."

Talk together:

• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• What is the difference between confidence and pride?
• How can we show we are listening?
• What would you like to ask about this ayah?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will say 'Thank you for telling me' when someone corrects me."
