Start with bismillah.

Ask: "Have you ever promised something and then found it hard to keep?"

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What did they promise?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why do people break big promises?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Fatir is surah 35. Find ayah 42. The key word aqsamu means they swore. Before the Prophet came, the people of Makkah said that if a warner came they would be the most obedient nation. When he came, they turned away. Promises are easy to make and harder to keep, so we should promise carefully and keep our word.

Fact: Which surah begins by telling believers to fulfil their contracts and promises?

Ages 5–8: Promise jar. Write one small promise on a slip, put it in a jar and keep it this week.

Ages 9–12: Promise tracker. Track every promise you make for three days and tick off the ones you keep.
