Start with bismillah.

Ask: "How do you feel when something you were warned about actually happens?"

Watch the Practicing Quran video about how the companions responded when they saw the armies.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What happened to their faith?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How can hardship grow faith?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Ahzab is surah 33. Find ayah 22. The key words zadahum imanan mean it increased them in faith. The same scene that frightened the hypocrites made the believers stronger. They had been told that tests would come, so seeing them proved Allah's word was true. The way we look at a problem changes how it affects us.

Fact: Which ayah in Surah Al-Baqarah says believers will be tested with fear, hunger and loss?

Ages 5–8: Glass half full. Look at a half-full glass and practise describing it in a hopeful way.

Ages 9–12: Two views. Write how a hypocrite and a believer might each see the same problem.

Finish with: "I found that it is ayah ___ of Al-Baqarah."

Talk together:

• Why did the same event affect people differently?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• How can you see problems with faith?
• What problem could you look at differently?
• What would you like to ask about this ayah?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will look for the lesson in one hard thing."
