وَمَآ أَصَٰبَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْتَقَى ٱلْجَمْعَانِ فَبِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Wa mā 'aṣābakum' yaw'ma l-taqāl-jam'ʻāni fabi'idh'ni -llahi waliyaʻ'lama l-mu''minīna
What ye suffered on the day the two armies Met, was with the leave of Allah, in order that He might test the believers,-

What happened on the day the two sides met was by Allah's permission, so that He might make clear who the true believers were.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "How do hard times show who is truly loyal?"
Play the short Ali 'Imran clip of ayat 161–170 from MUSLIM BOOK.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "By whose permission did it happen?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why do tests show true faith?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Ali 'Imran is surah 3. Find ayah 166. Hard times show true faith. Allah already knows everything, but tests make it clear to us who stays firm.
Fact: Tests make clear what was already known to Allah.
Ages 5–8: True friend. Talk about a friend who helped in a hard time.
Ages 9–12: Tests show. Write how tests show true faith.
Finish with: "It was by Allah's ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will stay patient when something goes wrong."
Action: Stay patient when something goes wrong.
