فَتِلْكَ بُيُوتُهُمْ خَاوِيَةًۢ بِمَا ظَلَمُوٓا۟ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَةًۭ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يَعْلَمُونَ
Fatil'ka buyūtuhum' khāwiyatan[m] bimā ẓalamū . 'inna fī dhālika la'āyatan lliqaw'min yaʻ'lamūna
Now such were their houses, - in utter ruin, - because they practised wrong-doing. Verily in this is a Sign for people of knowledge.

Start with bismillah.
Ask: "What can old ruins teach people today?"

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "Who is this sign for?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "What do empty homes teach us?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah An-Naml is surah 27. Find ayah 52. The key word khawiyah means empty, fallen. The homes of Thamud were left behind. People who think and learn see a lesson there. Ruins remind us that power and buildings do not last without obedience to Allah.

Ages 9–12: Lesson for thinkers. Write what a thinking person learns from ruins.
