Start with bismillah.

Ask: "Can too much of a good thing be bad?"

For a few quiet minutes, listen to Maher Al-Muaiqly reciting Ta-Ha, shared by Sheikh Dr Mahir Al Muaiqly Qirats.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What should they not do with food?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "What does 'no excess' look like at mealtime?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Ta-Ha is surah 20. Find ayah 81. Tayyibat are good, wholesome foods. Allah tells us to enjoy them without greed, waste or ingratitude. Balance is part of thankfulness.

Fact: How much food is wasted in the world each year? Find an estimate.

Ages 5–8: Just enough. Serve yourself just enough and finish your plate.

Ages 9–12: Balance. Write a plan to stop wasting food at home.

Finish with: "I found about ___ is wasted."

Talk together:

• Why not waste food?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• How much is enough?
• How can your family waste less?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will take just enough and not waste."
