يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
Yā'ayyuhā -lladhīna 'āmanū kutiba ʻalay'kumu ṣṣiyāmu kamā kutiba ʻalā-lladhīna min qab'likum' laʻallakum' tattaqūna
O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint,-

4-I guide
Believers, fasting has been made a duty for you just as it was for earlier peoples, in order that you grow mindful of Allah.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Why do Muslims fast?"
Learn Quran has the whole of Al-Baqarah by a reciter. Play just the first stretch.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What is fasting for?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How does fasting build taqwa?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Baqarah is surah 2. Find ayah 183. Fasting was given to earlier nations too. Holding back from food helps us hold back from wrong. The goal is taqwa.
Fact: Earlier prophets also fasted, such as Dawud, who fasted every other day (Bukhari).
Ages 5–8: Practice fast. Try a short practice fast with family.
Ages 9–12: Taqwa. Write how fasting builds self-control.
Finish with: "Fasting is so we may gain ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will practise self-control by waiting before a treat."
Action: Practise self-control by waiting before a treat.
