ٱلَّذِينَ ضَلَّ سَعْيُهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ يُحْسِنُونَ صُنْعًا
Alladhīna ḍalla saʻ'yuhum' fī l-ḥayāti ddun'yā wahum' yaḥ'sabūna 'annahum' yuḥ'sinūna ṣun'ʻan
"Those whose efforts have been wasted in this life, while they thought that they were acquiring good by their works?"

They are the ones whose efforts in this life were wasted while they thought they were doing well.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Can someone work hard and still lose?"
Put on Muhammad Siddiq Al-Minshawi's Al-Kahf from القرآن الكريم سماع وقراءة and follow along for a little while.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What did they think they were doing?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How can I make sure my effort counts?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Kahf is surah 18. Find ayah 104. Some people work hard for the wrong goals or without faith. Their efforts wash away like sandcastles. Effort for Allah with the right intention lasts.
Fact: Find the ayah about worshipping Allah sincerely (Al-Bayyinah 98:5).
Ages 5–8: Sandcastle lesson. Build a sandcastle near water and watch it wash away.
Ages 9–12: Intentions. Write how to make your effort count with Allah.
Finish with: "I found it in Surah ___, ayah ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will say 'for Allah' before a good deed."
Action: Say 'for Allah' before a good deed.
Adults supervise water play.
