وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِٱلْأُنثَىٰ ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُۥ مُسْوَدًّۭا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌۭ
Wa 'idhā bushshira 'aḥaduhum bil-'unthā ẓalla waj'huhu mus'waddan wahuwa kaẓīmun
When news is brought to one of them, of (the birth of) a female (child), his face darkens, and he is filled with inward grief!

When one of them was told a daughter had been born, his face darkened and he was filled with sadness.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "How should a family feel when a baby girl is born?"

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "How did some people react to a daughter?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why was that reaction wrong?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah An-Nahl is surah 16. Find ayah 58. Some people of old were unhappy when a daughter was born. That was very wrong. Islam teaches that daughters are a blessing and a mercy from Allah.
Fact: Ash-Shura 42:49 says Allah gives daughters and sons as He wills. Read it.
Ages 5–8: Blessing card. Make a card celebrating girls in your family.
Ages 9–12: Daughters in Islam. Write how Islam changed how daughters were treated.
Finish with: "Ash-Shura 42:49 says Allah gives ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will be kind to my sister, mother or a girl cousin."
Action: Be kind to your sister, mother or a girl cousin.
