Start with bismillah.

Ask: "Could anyone write something as wonderful as the Quran?"

Put on Mishary Alafasy's Hud from Hikarilqalbi and follow along for a little while.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "How many surahs were they challenged to bring?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why has no one ever met this challenge?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Hud is surah 11. Find ayah 13. The Quran challenged its deniers: if you think a man made it, make ten surahs like it. No one could. The Quran's words are from Allah.

Fact: The Quran gives this challenge at different levels: Al-Isra 17:88 (whole Quran), here (ten surahs), Al-Baqarah 2:23 (one surah).

Ages 5–8: Beautiful words. Recite your favourite short surah and talk about why it is special.

Ages 9–12: The challenge. Write the three challenge ayat and what each asks for.

Finish with: "Al-Baqarah 2:23 challenges people to bring ___."

Talk together:

• What was the challenge?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• Why could no one meet it?
• Which surah do you love most?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will learn one new short surah."

• The Quran is from Allah.
• Recite your favourite.
• Share your writing.
• Next time: the next ayah (11:14) draws a conclusion from the challenge. Explore it together!
