فَلَوْلَا كَانَتْ قَرْيَةٌ ءَامَنَتْ فَنَفَعَهَآ إِيمَٰنُهَآ إِلَّا قَوْمَ يُونُسَ لَمَّآ ءَامَنُوا۟ كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْخِزْىِ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَمَتَّعْنَٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍۢ
How to read it
Falaw'lā kānat' qar'yatun 'āmanat' fanafaʻahā 'īmānuhā 'illā qaw'ma yūnussa lammā 'āmanū kashaf'nā ʻan'hum' ʻadhāba l-khiz'yi fī l-ḥayāti ddun'yā wamattaʻ'nāhum' 'ilā ḥīnin
Why was there not a single township (among those We warned), which believed,- so its faith should have profited it,- except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the penalty of ignominy in the life of the present, and permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while.
